East Newton

East Newton is the older, established side of Newton — mostly single-family streets east of 144 Street. About 46,000 people live here, median age late thirties, and two in three households own. Houses lead what comes up, then townhouses, then apartments; four-bedroom-and-up is the largest group.

There's no SkyTrain station in East Newton. The R1 RapidBus connects Newton Exchange to King George and Surrey Central stations, so going downtown means a bus first, then the train. 64 Avenue edges the neighbourhood to the south, 144 Street to the west.

The fenced Serpentine Off-Leash Dog Park is over in Newton town centre, with a double-gated entry and a path around the perimeter. Newton Recreation Centre has a wave pool, water slides, a hot tub and a steam room.

The public elementaries are Hyland on 140 Street, Georges Vanier on 142 Street, T E Scott on 148 Street, M B Sanford on 143 Street, Chimney Hill on 74 Avenue and Bear Creek on 80 Avenue. Regent Christian Academy, an independent secondary, is at 15100 66a Ave. Check the school board's catchment locator for your exact address.
